Emily White,
This story is a classic from the series, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed。。。 which many children know and love。 This one involves a chick which links to Easter。 The seasonal books are always great to entertain children and get them ready and excited for that upcoming holiday。 This is good for a classroom to read the day before they go on "Easter Break" or "Easter Weekend"。 This story is a classic from the series, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed。。。 which many children know and love。 This one involves a chick which links to Easter。 The seasonal books are always great to entertain children and get them ready and excited for that upcoming holiday。 This is good for a classroom to read the day before they go on "Easter Break" or "Easter Weekend"。 。。。more
Kristina,
My first graders loved hearing this book。 This is also a good book for younger readers。 The lines repeat which is a good thing for learn。 This is also an AR book for anyone who might want to know。 I would recommend this book to others。
KaitandMaddie,
Kait loves these, having read the Leaves one at school。 They are fun to read/sing aloud。 There’s a bit of ability to get the girls to predict the rhyming words。
Courtney Rose,
This is a fun Easter twist to the classic, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly"。 I really enjoyed this book。 It follows a wacky lady who keeps eating absurd items。 She first swallows a chick, then straw, egg, candy, basket, bow, until she runs into none other than the Easter Bunny。 The book is a repetitive rhyming book that would be great for a kindergarten class。 The students will get a laugh out of the old lady's eating habits and it can be a fun book to lead into an easter project。 I w This is a fun Easter twist to the classic, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly"。 I really enjoyed this book。 It follows a wacky lady who keeps eating absurd items。 She first swallows a chick, then straw, egg, candy, basket, bow, until she runs into none other than the Easter Bunny。 The book is a repetitive rhyming book that would be great for a kindergarten class。 The students will get a laugh out of the old lady's eating habits and it can be a fun book to lead into an easter project。 I would use this book as a read-aloud and have students repeat after what the old lady had eaten。 This book would be great to practice sequencing with students。 I would have the different items she ate on cut out strips of paper and then the students would put in order what she ate first to last。 I could also make the book interactive while reading by having the easter items she ate and then make a cut out old women the students could feed。 It would help engagement and comprehension in the story。 The illustrations in this book were also great and brought to life the words on the page。 。。。more
Lexi Skyles,
I definitely found this book a little odd but it is like a re-write of "There was an Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly" but an easter version。 It was an interesting book and I think because I am older I found it weird but kids would find it funny。 I definitely found this book a little odd but it is like a re-write of "There was an Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly" but an easter version。 It was an interesting book and I think because I am older I found it weird but kids would find it funny。 。。。more

For: nonsense/Easter fans; readers looking for a book that builds off of itself。Possible red flags: silliness; gluttony。
Kayla Angeletti,
I think that this was a very good book and would read it to my class。 I did not know that this was a spring story so I was caught by surprised at the end! The inspirations were so cute and very accurate to what I was picturing when reading the words。 This is a funny book they could get anyone thinking, why would she eat all of this weird stuff? Until you get to the end and the truth is revealed。 There was also a lot of rhyming going on in this book and I think that rhyming would keep the interes I think that this was a very good book and would read it to my class。 I did not know that this was a spring story so I was caught by surprised at the end! Isabella,
This picture book follows a pattern that is fun to keep up with。 An old lady first swallows a chick and then keeps swallowing other materials such as straw, a basket, and a bow which end up making an easter basket。 The illustrations are funny and do a good job at showing what is happening on each page。 I enjoyed this book and think that kids will have a fun time with it when it is read aloud。 I would recommend this book for kindergarten through third grade。

In this book There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick it is a lot like the other books with "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a 。。。"。 The books are all by different authors but are alike。 The difference is that in this one she swallows a chicks first but then keeps swallowing more things to help the things before it。 Like she swallows straw to help the chick and then keeps going and swallowing a bunch of different things。 The story keeps going with her swallowing things but in the other bo In this book There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick it is a lot like the other books with "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a 。。。"。 The books are all by different authors but are alike。 The difference is that in this one she swallows a chicks first but then keeps swallowing more things to help the things before it。 Like she swallows straw to help the chick and then keeps going and swallowing a bunch of different things。 The story keeps going with her swallowing things but in the other book it does not have a good ending but this one does。 It all ends up being about Easter and Spring beginning。 The pictures in this book are nice and detailed but it does not have a whole in the page like the other ones which really brought it to life。 Overall it is a children's book kids will like。 It is enjoyable for the audience with good pictures。 。。。more
Kathy,
This book and its’ series do a really good job at engaging the reader and at developing executive functioning skills like short term recall, inferring and inquisitive thinking。 For example, the book starts with the main repetitive lines “there was an old lady who swallowed a _____” and then “I don’t know why she swallowed a ____” The following pages in the story contain the same exact sentences as stated earlier, but with different items like a chick, straw, egg, candy, basket, and a bow。An acti This book and its’ series do a really good job at engaging the reader and at developing executive functioning skills like short term recall, inferring and inquisitive thinking。 For example, the book starts with the main repetitive lines “there was an old lady who swallowed a _____” and then “I don’t know why she swallowed a ____” The following pages in the story contain the same exact sentences as stated earlier, but with different items like a chick, straw, egg, candy, basket, and a bow。An activity for this book would be to have the vocabulary words handy in picture form。 And have a Velcro strip。 That way you can sequence the items, and ask “what did the old lady swallow first?” and “what did she swallow last?” Then we would write out the words。 This would help with sequencing。 In addition, it can be an activity for cognition if we read the book twice and ask them to recall the order of the things the lady swallowed。 This way we can work on short term recall。 This book not only targets semantic relationships and vocabulary to target language related to a theme (this case Easter) but it also helps children develop short term memory recall and inferring abilities。 。。。more
AMY,
Another cute version of the basic story。 This time the lady keeps swallowing things in the Easter season to make a surprise later on。 There is always a nice twist at the end of this series。 Whimsical and colorful illustrations will keep kids laughing。 A great read-aloud book for younger children。 Highly recommended for Grades K-2。
Ike,
While some may really enjoy this one, it just didn't leap up and say, "I really need to get this for my young Grands to read。" It was, however lyrical and well illustrated。 While some may really enjoy this one, it just didn't leap up and say, "I really need to get this for my young Grands to read。" It was, however lyrical and well illustrated。 。。。more
Haley Akers,
This book series is such a good one! I would read this book in my classroom。 It teaches students repetition and rhyming。 It has humor in it, which will keep the kids engaged。 It can also teach dictation with some of the words that are used。 The illustrations are beautifully done as well!
Sunni Berbert,
Fun Easter theme。 Rhyming。 Sequencing。 Have students inferences what she creates at the end (Easter basket)。

Traditional LiteratureThis was an Easter version of the classic "There Was an Old Lady" song。 The old lady swallowed all the perfect stuff to put into an easter basket。 She was hopping along when she ran into the Easter Bunny。 When she met the Easter Bunny all the stuff she swallowed flew out of her mouth and made the perfect basket for the Easter Bunny。 Traditional LiteratureThis was an Easter version of the classic "There Was an Old Lady" song。 The old lady swallowed all the perfect stuff to put into an easter basket。 She was hopping along when she ran into the Easter Bunny。 When she met the Easter Bunny all the stuff she swallowed flew out of her mouth and made the perfect basket for the Easter Bunny。 。。。more

Good grief, I don't know what to make of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick!。 It's silly, the rhymes are wonderful, I found the ending abrupt and rather dismaying and I hated the illustrations。 Oy。 Not a book I'm giving to my grands。 Good grief, I don't know what to make of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick!。 It's silly, the rhymes are wonderful, I found the ending abrupt and rather dismaying and I hated the illustrations。 Oy。 Not a book I'm giving to my grands。 。。。more

Pam,
I am in search of a great Easter book, not too sweet like most of them out there, maybe a bit of humor, a good story, and great artwork。 Unfortunately this is not the book。 It is okay but that is the best review I can give。 Maybe there is a boy out there who will enjoy it but I really wonder。 I have read other "There was an old lady。。。" books and they were better than this one。 I am in search of a great Easter book, not too sweet like most of them out there, maybe a bit of humor, a good story, and great artwork。 Unfortunately this is not the book。 It is okay but that is the best review I can give。 Maybe there is a boy out there who will enjoy it but I really wonder。 I have read other "There was an old lady。。。" books and they were better than this one。 。。。more
